Welcome... …to the online home of the Association of Veterinary Students of Great Britain and Ireland! We are the student branch of the British Veterinary Association and if you’re one of the UK’s 5000+ vet students you’re automatically a member. We hope this will be useful to find out about what your organisation does for you and as we develop the website more, maybe share some of the photos from sports, skiing or congress! This year is particularly exciting as we welcome the second new intake of Nottingham Vet School to AVS and their representatives to the committee and have the opportunity to initiate them into the long held tradition of vet school events (treat them gently!) with the next AVS Sports in Dublin this coming November, the 3rd AVS Ski trip & you can all go and visit them for AVS Congress in Nottingham next January! You might not know much about your AVS reps, but being on committee is a busy job and this year’s committee, who took over in late January 2007 at AVS congress in Edinburgh, is really hard working! Members of the committee represent AVS at BVA, DEFRA & RCVS meetings, as well as all the veterinary congresses. Information relevant to students is fed back and discussed at AVS meetings, and minutes from these will be posted on the ‘committee meetings’ page. It’s a privilege to be heading up AVS and we’re really looking forward to an excellent year, so have a look at what we really do, let us know how we could help you better, and get involved!
